Producer, In The Thick

In The Thick is a political podcast co-hosted by award-winning journalists Maria Hinojosa and Julio Ricardo Varela. In The Thick has conversations about race, identity and politics that are often missing from the mainstream news. In The Thick is hiring a producer to join our vibrant team of audio journalists. 

This is a full-time position beginning on March 6, 2023.

Futuro Media’s offices are based in Harlem, New York City. However, this position is remote with the ability to work from our offices.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to In The Thick Lead Producer Nour Saudi, the Producer will:

• Generate ideas for weekly episodes;
• Produce and edit weekly episodes as needed;
• Do research and identify guests for the podcast;
• Conduct pre-interviews as needed; 
• Book interviews, prepare interview questions, and prep hosts; 
• Edit audio and assemble episodes in ProTools;
• Conduct fact-checking as needed;
• Take a lead role in scripting episodes;
• Track hosts and guests;
• Help finalize show web content;
• Attend and contribute meaningfully to editorial meetings;
• Collaborate, when necessary, on other shows produced by Futuro Media’s Talk Unit.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field, or comparable work experience;
• 3+ years work experience in audio journalism, or 5+ years experience in other journalism mediums, plus some audio production experience;
• Significant experience with ProTools;
• Demonstrated interest in race, identity, and local politics;  
• Commitment to diverse coverage in terms of sexual orientation, gender, points of view, culture, and race;
• Demonstrate ability to pitch political, social, and cultural roundtable and evergreen episodes that are newsworthy, featuring both prominent journalists and thought leaders, and voices that are not usually given a platform in the mainstream media;
• Excellent team player who thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment;
• Have an ear for good tape and excellent attention to detail;
• Strong time management and organizational skills;

Additional Details 

• Salary:  62-70K commensurate with experience
• Health insurance and benefits will also be provided.
• Recording equipment and audio editing software will be provided.
